This is every horror buff’s wet dream.
There are so many films referenced in this refreshingly original picture, playing spot them all will keep you occupied for an hour and a half in itself. But that’s not to say that The Cabin In The Woods isn’t enjoyable in itself - it really is.
A Josh Whedon film - he of Buff and Angel fame (Fred from Angel is in it, being very Fred like) - it is that rare thing - a laugh out loud horror comedy - and a hugely innovative one at that.
From the word go, you know that there’s more to this than the traditional “teens in the woods” senario, as the Big Brother set-up is revealed straight away.
Howere, the film does keep enough back to keep you wondering and slowly, but surely reveals more and more.
The special effects are fantastic, and slightly old school - but all the better for it.
The Evil Dead, Hellraiser, Saw, Friday 13th are allreferenced and there’s enough gore on display to keep the splatter fans happy.
It actually starts off quite slowly, but there are enough laughs and hints that something is amiss to reel you in, before the blood starts to flow and things get more and more bonkers.
There are more and more surprises as the film goes on, and it never disappoints.
The Cabain In The Woods is rated 15 and is released in the UK on Friday, April 13 - go see it.
